Senior School

A variety of educational experiences.

Huddersfield Grammar’s Private Senior School is where our pupils from the age of 11-16 (Years 7-11) are given the perfect opportunity to grow and mature not only as pupils but as young adults.

Our Senior School approach couples an academically rigorous curriculum with ample opportunity to develop co-curricular skills; encouraging our pupils to develop in all aspects of their lives.

The core goal of our Senior School is to give your children the opportunity to realise their full potential and become the best they can be.

Our approach

Enriching our pupil's learning.

We value one-to-one teaching so class sizes are small with no more than 20 pupils. Progress is carefully monitored and additional help is given on an individual basis to support each pupil.

Our young people are provided with a variety of educational experiences to allow them to develop as well-rounded, enthusiastic and impressive individuals.

Opportunities in school

There are many ways that our pupils can excel.

Opportunities are provided for older pupils to develop their leadership skills as they become Prefects, Sports Leaders, Reading Buddies, Maths Champions, Charity Ambassadors and Peer Supporters.

The School Council reflects the “pupil voice” within the school and pupil Action Groups have been created in several areas, benefitting both pupils, parents and the community.

FACILITIES & LOCATION

A beautiful listed building.

Our impressive private school has been tailored to deliver a fulfilling educational experience. Set in beautiful woodland and open space, pupils can enjoy modern school facilities that enhance their learning experience.

The house is a beautiful listed building that dates back to the 19th century, which is home to our Senior School. It offers an environment where pupils can feel truly inspired.

Our daughter has thrived in the Huddersfield Grammar School environment. I am convinced that she will achieve her maximum potential and is happy there.

CURRICULUM

A broad curriculum for pupils to enjoy.

The curriculum for our Senior School offers the core subjects of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Separate Sciences alongside a wide range of other subjects to choose from.

GCSE options are finalised at the end of Year 9 in consultation with parents and pupils to ensure a balanced curriculum. There is an option in Year 8 to trial additional subjects so an informed choice can be made prior to decisions in Year 9. The school provides a variety of option choice pathways to support the individual, allowing them to pursue their chosen passions and career aspirational needs.

CO-CURRICULAR

Opportunities to grow beyond the curriculum.

Throughout the year there are more than 70 clubs and societies listed on the weekly calendar on offer to pupils of our Senior School. New activities are added in most years and we are always looking for new ways to enhance pupils' skills and experience beyond the curriculum itself.

The school is involved in several local and regional sporting tournaments and competitions. We play matches in our main sports of Football, Cricket and Netball in the West Yorkshire Independent Schools Leagues.

Staff and pupils devote a lot of time to producing school concerts, exhibitions and performances, with music often provided by our fantastic school band. We stage senior school productions in the summer, a range of performances throughout Christmas and a Spring Concert.

An adventure to remember

A place for children to evolve and become confident, enthusiastic individuals. We encourage pupils to develop a genuine thirst for knowledge to take with them beyond their school years.
