Scholarships & Bursaries

Recognition

The best of the best

Scholarships are provided in recognition of outstanding performance and a demonstration of exceptional ability, be that in the field of academia, the performing arts, the creative arts, and sporting achievement.

These are conditional upon a pupil maintaining a high standard of performance and a commitment to contribute fully to school life at HGS.

Awarding our scholarships.

The award of all scholarships will be dependent on candidates achieving an appropriately high standard of performance in the Scholarship Assessment papers, appropriate references as required, and the candidate’s performance at the scholarship interview with senior members of staff.

We offer a variety of scholarships, including Academic, Sports, Music, Performing Arts (Dance and/or Drama) and Creative Arts Scholarships.

Scholarships are awarded at the start of Year 7. However, they may be available at the Headteacher’s discretion at any point throughout the Senior School in order to recognise outstanding performance.

Exhibition Awards

Recognising achievement.

The Headteacher may also make a specific “Exhibition Award” in recognition of scholarship performance and achievement to individual pupils that the school is not able to award a full scholarship.

Bursaries may be awarded on the basis of a means test for children already in attendance at the school who are experiencing financial hardship.

Financial Assistance Bursaries

We offer a limited number of bursaries to make an independent education accessible to children who we believe can make a positive contribution to school life and who demonstrate a love of learning and high standards of behaviour.

All bursaries are means-tested and awarded based on a household’s financial situation and subject to the availability of school bursary funds. A bursary is only awarded to children already in attendance at the school who are experiencing financial hardship at the discretion of the Headteacher and is reviewed periodically.
