Our thriving Pre-Preparatory is a happy, lively environment where year 1 and 2 pupils build upon the key skills already learnt during their time in Reception.

Our approach
Literacy and numeracy have a high priority to ensure a sound foundation, but great emphasis is also placed on the emotional and social development of each individual.
Parents are invited to be involved in the various activities on offer and to learn how we teach literacy and numeracy in sessions such as Stay and Play, which focus on numbers, phonics, and PE and Movement. We also welcome parents to our regular class and celebration assemblies.

CURRICULUM
In addition to the core subjects of Maths and English your child will have lessons in Science, History, Geography, RE, Computing, Spanish, Music, Drama, PSHE, Art and DT, many of which are taught by specialist teachers.
Outside of the classroom, the addition of Forest School in Pre-Preparatory promotes and develops essential Huddersfield Grammar School character skills of resilience and teamwork. Physical activity also plays a very important part in our curriculum and your child will have weekly PE, Dance and Swimming lessons, with many additional opportunities for further activities provided by our extensive extra-curricular programme.
Through the House system, our children get involved in a variety of fun and challenging individual and collaborative activities while representing their House. They also take part in a number of whole-school House events.
CO-CURRICULAR
We strongly promote pupils to engage with our co-curricular enrichment programme to enhance their learning.
