Starting school is a major milestone in a child's (and parent's) life and we hope to make this as stress-free and happy as possible.

We welcome children from the age of 3 years into our nurturing setting, which is the first entry point into the school.

Huddersfield Grammar School offers a broad curriculum and a rich variety of experiences, including daily Literacy and Numeracy sessions, as well as specialist classes in Spanish, Forest School, Baking, Ballet, PE and swimming.

FACILITIES & LOCATION

Our facilities truly engage and inspire.

The Nursery at Huddersfield Grammar School is a very special place in which to learn and play. Located within an original Victorian villa, children benefit from well-equipped, bright and comfortable rooms and have full access to all our school facilities, including our amazing grounds and state-of-the-art outdoor learning space.

Our stunning woodland area is used for Forest School, providing the perfect space to explore the natural world, and a food technology lab offers opportunities for children to develop their culinary skills.

Indoor and outdoor sports facilities are available for PE lessons and a dedicated Performance Studio for expressive arts.

A DAY IN NURSERY

A supportive learning environment in which to thrive.

Each day includes group phonics or numeracy sessions, free choice play and adult-led activities. Sessions incorporate a blend of communication and language development, social and emotional development and physical development.

A wide range of specialist activities and experiences are also included in the weekly timetable, which changes daily.

Each day, children enjoy a morning snack break, a nutritious lunch in the dining hall and a fruit snack in the afternoon.

The school day runs from 8.20am until 3.15pm with the option for children to stay for co-curricular activities until 4.00pm.

A Breakfast Club is available from 7.30am and out of school care runs until 5.30pm, each day. A holiday club also operates outside of term time, which covers 6 weeks of the school holiday periods.

Places in the Nursery are available on a full-time and part-time basis, with the option of a settling in period for 6 weeks.

OUR APPROACH

A nurturing and safe place for pupils.

At 3 and 4 years old, your child’s wellbeing is our priority. Our highly trained and caring staff create a happy and safe environment where young imaginations are inspired and challenged, ready for their next adventure in school.

Learning is primarily based on play and directed through discovery and investigation with termly topics to engage the children. We use the Read Write Inc. literacy scheme and our own numbers programme to develop basic writing and numeracy skills.

FEES

Flexible settling in period

Places in the Nursery are available on a full-time and part-time basis with the option of a settling in period for the first 6 weeks for all new children.

We offer parents the flexibility to choose how they structure the sessions within the settling in period to make sure children feel comfortable when joining our Nursery.

This could be 5 morning sessions or a combination of half and full days (minimum of 5 sessions per week).

Fees are charged per school term and there are 3 terms per year. We also offer the government funded 15 free hours of nursery care per week.
